Just Art Vibez recently got a chance to interview Artist Jiawei Fu in regarding to her new series and upcoming projects. We got insights into her work, her source of inspiration and much more!
Q. First of all, welcome! It is wonderful to have you on our platform. How are you doing?
I’m doing quite well, thank you for asking! I’ve been busy developing my new painting series, engaging with artist in different career level, and learning new medium every day. It’s always fascinating to encounter new things in life. Sometimes the challenges may arise, but I think its always the opportunity to improve from current.
Q. We got a special sneak peek into your new series and it is wonderful, and we will talk about it. But before that, please tell us what made you embark on this journey of Art?
Art is a fascinating topic that human like exploring. It helps us answer question and create communication. I always believe art can push the boundaries of culture and history. I love how it gives me motivation to self express, to reflect, communicate and to pursuit the meaning behind. A kind of self understand made me continue in this journey.

Q. What exactly is the creative process that you follow while you are working on your paintings?
I consistently prioritize honoring the creative process, recognizing its pivotal role in the formation of art. Drawing inspiration from my daily sketches, I weave together multiple layers of emotions to enrich my work. My approach involves attentive listening before embarking on the act of creation, ensuring that my art remains authentic and resonant.
Q. What is Art according to you?
Art is just one of the languages that help people convey their feelings and thoughts.
Q. What motivates you and what inspires you in your life?
I find inspiration in the downhill moments of my life. Even amidst negative events, I strive to uncover the positives and seek light in the darkness. What truly matters is the ability to always find the uphill path leading toward the peak.
Q. Who has been a major influence in your life?
My mother has been a major influence in my life because she’s taught me a valuable lesson: perfection isn’t necessary at all times, but the willingness to strive for improvement is essential.
Q. Who are your 3 favorite Artists and why?
I admire Minjun Yue, Ye Liu, and Dagou as my favorite artists. One significant aspect of their work that resonates with me is their utilization of fantasy to express genuine narratives. Their art transcends realism, employing color and figure posture to effectively convey underlying messages. Their themes often explore the intricate relationships between various elements, people, and even political dynamics.
Q. Your newest series, “My Yellow is Your Blue,” is marvelous. Please tell us about it and what inspired you to create it?
The latest series aims to explore the intricate dynamics of intimacy within relationships, drawing influence from both external surroundings and individual dispositions. It delves into a deeper comprehension by exchanging emotional nuances represented by the colors “yellow” and “blue”. My goal is to provide fresh viewpoints that foster a sense of closeness and connection with the viewer.

Q. What lies ahead for you in the coming years? What next? Any collaboration plans?
I’m thrilled to announce that I have a solo exhibition scheduled for 2025 at Artifact Gallery in New York City. I’ll be showcasing my latest series, and I’m eager to share it with all viewers following the summer season. Additionally, I have several other exhibitions lined up in the near future.
Q. Lastly, as we ask all artists on our platform, do you have any closing thoughts that you would like to share with the world and our readers?
One principle I consistently emphasize is that community cannot exist without communication. As I write this sentence, I aim to connect with people everywhere. I encourage everyone not to suppress their thoughts but to remain authentic. Expressing your feelings doesn’t always require speaking aloud; there are numerous ways to convey your thoughts to the world in this very moment.
About the artist: Jiawei Fu (b. 1998) is an Interior Designer and Painter, born in Guangzhou, China and now living in Los Angeles, USA. She bonded with painting in the beginning of her memories. Along with painting, the word “communication “has never left her life. Her family teaches that “speaking” is not the only way to perform a conversation. It can be done in a gesture, an expression, or even in a long laugh. Jiawei came to the United States alone. Noticing the barriers between different languages and cultures, she starts to search for a better way to convey the mutualism in between through her works. Her work represents a perspective from invisible introspection, creating a space for the viewer to reflect on their own, and addressing the mutual language that will be shared together for cherishing the unique sameness. It starts as the reflection of the surroundings and ends as the reflection of oneself.
